Masters Thesis: The Meridian Sanctuary of Botany

The Meridian Sanctuary of Botany
The Meridian Sanctuary of Botany aims to offer Belfast an oasis like sanctuary to escape the city...within the city.
The scheme addresses the issues of lacking public green space and freespace in Belfast City centre.
Inspired from Belfast’s victorian Botanical gardens, St Georges Market, and the historic Botanical Pleasure Park, the scheme embraces, appreciates and recreates some of Belfast’s most atmospheric zones within the city centre.
Belfast is in a state of post conflict regrowth, which has contributed to Belfast’s poor mental and physical health statistics. In a place where territories are marked, and we are constantly reminded of the darkness of the past. The scheme is central to be inclusive to all of the people of Belfast to share on the River Lagan, a place of great historic significance which should be celebrated. The main aspect of the scheme is that it is a transparent floating garden, offering peace, enjoyment, reflection, and sanctuary to a city lacking free public space for head space.
